Testing the Impact Resistance of Plastic Closures with the BIT-1

2 min read

The BIT-1 by AT2E tests the impact resistance of plastic closures: a steel ball falls freely through a guiding tube and strikes the closure. Impact height and position are adjustable, for glass and PET bottles.

BIT-1 Ball Impact Tester by AT2E

How the BIT-1 test works

  1. A steel ball of specified size and mass (Ø41 ±0.2 mm, 286 ±2 g) is placed in a guiding tube at a set height.

  2. The ball is released and falls freely onto the closure.

  3. The closure is then inspected to determine its impact resistance.

The impact force is determined by the length of the guiding tube and the weight of the steel ball.

Frequently asked questions

What is the primary function of the BIT-1 ball impact tester?

The BIT-1 tests the impact resistance of plastic closures by dropping a steel ball from a controlled height, giving bottlers and cap manufacturers a benchmark reference for maintaining and improving closure performance.

What ball specifications and drop heights does the BIT-1 use?

The BIT-1 uses a steel ball of Ø41 ±0.2 mm weighing 286 ±2 g, with a guiding tube height of 762-1000 mm (higher on order) and an adjustable sample height of 0-350 mm.

What sample sizes can the BIT-1 accommodate?

The BIT-1 tests samples up to 100 mm in diameter (larger on order), with overall dimensions of 700 x 385 x 1250 mm and a net weight of 25 kg.
